Hands-on activities, exciting programs, and sophisticated science resources make CU science one of our most popular programs with students of all ages. Science units cover a wide range of topics including: life science, biology, pre-med, zoology, microbiology, physical science, chemistry, aerospace, engineering, physics, science, astronomy, geology, meteorology, environmental science, botany, ecology, Nature School, and gardening. Nature School is housed in a barn complete with a working animal barnyard, fish pond, garden, and terrarium. Children's University Nature School encourages students to experience nature first-hand. Our hands-on programs include a study of perennials, organic gardening, bird watching, observation of animal habitats, the study of pond life, and animal husbandry.

Department of Technology
Children's University students begin early with age-relevant instruction on a wide range of multi-media technology. Our computer and technology training gives students skills in a number of areas including desktop publishing, PowerPoint, internet research, Adobe Photoshop, programming, television broadcast, and photography. By integrating advanced technology into our classrooms, we can enhance the learning process in all areas of academic study.

Department of English
Our challenging English department employs an integrated approach to novels and short stories with emphasis on reading comprehension, fluency, and expression. Studies include fiction and non-fiction works, featuring winners of the Bluebonnet and Newbery Awards. Other areas covered include composition and business writing styles, advanced cursive handwriting, spelling, grammar, independent research, Latin/Greek word study, and an accelerated independent computer reading series.

Department of Mathematics
CU's math program offers a variety of activities and features designed to make math both relevant and fun. The challenging class work emphasizes problem-solving and critical-thinking skills integrated with technology. Along with building skills in problem solving, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, new concepts for fourth grade include analyzing ad graphing data, probability, geometry, fractions and decimals, measurement, statistics, percentages, ration and proportion, and algebra.

Department of Foreign Language
By introducing the study of foreign language to children at early ages, many countries have had great success in raising the number of bilingual speakers. Along with regular academic lessons, Children's University offers Spanish lessons to students as they begin their language development.

Department of Fine Arts
From Shakespeare and Chinese opera productions to painting, print making and clay, Children's University students experience art in new and unusual ways. Art appreciation takes on a personal meaning as world-renowned masterpieces inspire our young artists to try creating their own works of art. Instruction includes art theory as well as a hands-on approach to two- and three-dimensional design. With the recent opening of our new art gallery, student art is exhibited throughout the school year. Nationally renowned impressionistic artist, Amanda Dunbar, visited our campus exposing students to a "real world" element of the fine arts.

Music
In our introduction to jazz and creative movement, music and dance combine to help students develop a sense of rhythm and a love of music. Our music appreciation courses begin with a history of great composers and advance into singing, rhythm instruments, hand bells, the recorder and ear training. Finally, students apply their talents in the production of a musical orchestra and musical theater. Children's University students participate in choir and strings programs as well as our annual campus wide musical.
