CU Kids Kindness ClubOf the many lessons your children learn at Children's University, one of the most important is learning to give. Your children are beginning to realize that their lives can touch other lives -- through their relationships with teachers, friends and classmates. To expand on this idea, Children's University is pleased to announce a new community outreach effort called The CU Kids Kindness Club. Through several projects during the school year, our students will be able to participate in community outreach acitivities that encourage them to give back, give of themselves and find a new appreciation for good citizenship. We'll post upcoming CU Kids Kindness Club activities here, and we'll report the successes we've achieved as each project is completed. First Semester Kindness Outreach Events
With the help of the local Arlington Men's Garden Club, Children's University students cultivate and tend our campus gardens. The Garden Club is a great way to make friends in the community, enjoy the rewards of gardening and help students learn about plant life. Donations to the Red Cross Each year, CU students join our community in collecting for the American Red Cross. Along with our fundraising activities, students learn about recent services provided for by this worthwhile organization. Thanks to the hard work of our CU families in 2002, we contributed money to help the families in the New York City area most affected by the 9-11 tragedy. Food Bank The Tarrant County Food Bank feeds poor and homeless families in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. Each fall, CU students collect cans and other packaged goods to help with this worthwhile project. This year's collections totaled --- cans and enough money for - meals. Race For the Cure Children's University supports the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure dedicated to raising awareness to breast cancer. The largest series of 5K runs / fitness walks in the world, races are held in more than 100 U.S. cities and several foreign countries. Town Hall Estates Once every month, a different class of CU students shares their holiday spirit with nursing home residents at nearby Town Hall Estates. The residents enjoy gifts handmade by the students, listen to holiday songs and talk with the children. This special outreach program features a spring picnic, a favorite of both residents and students. Enduring Response From October 11 through May 11, 2001, CU students participated in Enduring Response, a national letter writing campaign sponsored by the Red Cross. The program connects America's school children with the United States military fighting in the war against terrorism. On the 11th of every month, CU students wrote letters to the men and women fighting overseas which were delivered in bulk by the Red Cross. |
