Children’s University Election Is A Whole Different Animal
ARLINGTON, Texas -- November 12, 2008 - Donkeys and elephants step aside. Two new political animals are gaining support on the campus of Children’s University, a Pre-K through 6th grade private school in Southwest Arlington, TX. On November 12, the students will flock to the voting booths to cast their ballots for a goat or a duck to serve as president for the next four years.
The unusual contest helps even very young children understand the basics of our political process. The ballot includes candidates running for the school’s student government offices. Realistic election highlights include student stump speeches, campaign fundraising buttons, TV commercials broadcast by students on the school’s own network, Whistle Stop Tours and actual voting booths.
The election follows the November 4th voting event in which students selected _____ for U.S. president. President Lynn Kenner, founder of Children’s University, notes, "With all the publicity surrounding our national elections, children love having one of their own. They really get excited about casting their votes and can’t wait to see who wins."
Children’s University is a fully accredited gifted and talented program with a focus on applied real world learning and innovative enrichment. The imaginative seven-acre campus includes a working barnyard, vegetable gardens, a tree house, a town square and a castle library. The school is located in southwest Arlington, Texas.
