Children’s University Students Build Resumés At Fall Job Fair
ARLINGTON, Texas -- November 11, 2008 -- This fall, career-minded elementary students will get a big jump on the future job market at Children’s University’s Fall Job Fair. The private school for Pre-K through 6th graders hosts the business event in partnership with American Airlines as part of its real-world learning program.
More than 228 third- through sixth-graders will attend pre-interview sessions covering topics such as: preparing for a job interview, writing résumés, interview behavior, post-interview follow-up and how to be a great employee. The students will then take a business lunch followed by actual interviews conducted by twenty-eight potential bosses in the school’s gymnasium. For the next 00 weeks, new hires will assist teachers and staff within the school. The job openings range from finance assistant and classroom maintenance to student ambassador and reading tutor.
Children’s University President Lynn Kenner began the program to expose young students to their career choices. Kenner explains, "Children want to know what they will be when they grow up. Our program helps them explore their likes and dislikes so they may find their passion early and work toward that goal."
