Independence & Confidence Building
Interactive activities and projects
encourage
second grade students to perfect and gain confidence in their skills.
In English, students learn persuasive, descriptive, explanatory and
comparative writing. They begin cursive writing, phonics-based
spelling, spelling tests and spelling dictation. Along with parts of speech and sentence structure, students study word families and word
meanings. Creative writing assignments include a personal narrative,
research papers with sources and desktop publishing of student books.
In addition to Young Author Books, second grade students read realistic and historical fiction, mystery, fairy tales, fantasy, fables, biography,
poetry and monthly-themed plays.
